PLACES TO VISIT
MALANA - Malana is a tiny village inhabited by people living
in self-imposed isolation and the temple of Jamlu Devta is located there. The
people of Malana call themselves to be the descendants of Aryan, as a result of
which they avoid interaction with outsiders. The village has plenty of scenic
sights, though, and is often called as ‘Little Greece’.
MANIKARAN SAHIB - Manikaran is about about 6 km from Kasol, to reach there you can take a hike, bus (frequency is big problem), hitch a ride or you can rent a bike. Manikaran Sahib is a huge Gurudwara tucked between imposing hills and a fierce Beas river. The high point of the Manikaran Sahib is the hot spring located within the premise of the Gurudwara. The devees take a dip here to wash their sins and illnesses away as the spring water is believed to have healing properties. The ‘Langar’ served is delicious.
TREKING TO TOSH - Trekking uphill through the forest is a shorter route to reach Tosh. Cabs are also available to take you there for a minimal charge or you can take bus ride till Barshaini. Accommodation and food are cheap and available in surplus in Tosh. One of the first things that hit you when you enter Tosh is the distinct smell of marijuana. There are plenty of cafes with great Israeli and European food and ideal ambience to relax. The village is located on a hillside overlooking the river and a waterfall. It is ideal to undertake long walks to discover the pretty delights of its mountain scenery.
TREKING TO KHEER GANGA - The Kheerganga trek starting point is at the dam constructed over Himalayan river Parvati in Barshaini. Trek to Kheer Ganga is a 9KM, takes four-six hours and is a steep climb on narrow and tricky trails. Kheer Ganga (3050 meters) lies at the extreme end of Parvati valley and the last inhibited village while trekking to pin valley via Pin-Parvati pass.
During the trek to Kheerganga, you will
come across the beautiful Rudra Nag Waterfall. It is a holy place with a hot
water spring, a small temple of Lord Shiva or the Rudra Nag temple and a
bathing tank to relax. It makes a rare combination for any trekker to bath in
hot spring water when everything is covered by snow. When you start spotting
yellow and blue huts on your journey after the waterfall and the temple, that
is when you know that Kheerganga is only a minute away!
